What’s Tha’ Word?
Well, here we are at the end of January and how many of us are spot on with the discipline necessary to tackle that long list of resolutions we created in our pajamas, while eating Christmas cookies, absolutely resisting anything remotely healthy before the New Year. I can tell you, I’m NOT spot on. But, for a moment, I was. And, when I say moment, I mean a really, really brief one. I beat myself up about my lack of discipline and focus, then, I’m back on.
Last week, I had a revelation. My beloved friend and sister, Kelly Hornsby, told me that instead of comprising a long list of New Year’s resolutions, she was going to challenge herself with a word. Isn’t that brilliant? Instead of all those promises we make and break, we simply choose a word to rise up to. In that moment, I said to myself, “relax!” And, today, my friends, “relax” is my word for 2015. As I type, I’m sitting comfortably in yoga pants and a sweatshirt with low light and a fabulously fragrant LAFCO candle beside me and, just maybe, one or four Girl Scout cookies in my belly. I’d say, I’m building momentum slowly and surely, calorie by calorie.
While this post is shorter than most, it’s purpose is to get you thinking about your word. What will it be and how will you live into it in 2015? Now, if you have resolutions, I’m not telling you to throw them out the door (even though you might have already). I’m just encouraging you to think about a word that resonates with you and be intentional about having more of whatever word you choose in your life. So, what will it be… peace, intention, joy, spirituality, creativity, adventure, solitude? I hope you find it and are empowered by all the good it will bring you for the remainder of 2015.
