LET LOVE RULE
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “The currents of Universal Being run though me, I am part and parcel God.” Have you ever thought about that, “you are part and parcel God.” If you haven’t, I want you to. You, your co-worker, the person who cut you off on your drive home, your best friend and your worst enemy, we are ALL part and parcel God.
In the last couple weeks, there has been much to celebrate and much to mourn in our country. And, every human being has a big opinion on it. Lucky for us, we live in a free country where we’re able to think and speak freely for ourselves. What a blessing, and, sometimes, what a curse.
But, I think to myself, what if we ALL remembered that we’re “part and parcel God?” If we did, we wouldn’t be worried about who someone was marrying and we certainly wouldn’t be killing Christians in their place of worship. We’d be in a place of knowing. Knowing who we are because we know who we come from. God. Yes, we are, in fact, ALL part and parcel God.
Years ago, Actor, Terrance Howard was being interviewed along with other Oscar Nominated Actors on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Something he said really struck a chord with me and has stayed with me since. When asked by Oprah, “Do you have a speech prepared if you win the Oscar?” He replied, “No, I don’t. I just hope the God within me would speak.” The God within. He knew who he was because of who he came from, and that’s what he was going to access when he was called upon to speak.
I’d like to live a little more like I am what I am, part and parcel God. And, I’d like to call on the God within to direct my words and actions. I really feel like if we all did that more, there would be much less judgement, way more love and unparalleled peace. To this country gal, well, that’s the kind of love that really wins. It’s an agape kind of love. The deepest form of love that one human can have for another, and it’s, without question, of God.
To close, I want to share one of my favorite verses from the Bible. 1 John 4:7 says, “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and everyone that loveth is born of God and knoweth God.” Remember these things. Live a life closer to your Creator, and, in the words of Lenny Kravitz, “let love rule!’
Stay Divine,
JL PARISH
