BE WHO YOU ARE
According to the one and only Dr. Seuss we should “Be who we are and say what we feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” Think on that… for just one second… It’s amazing how that little quotation resonates with our truest selves.
I’ve said it one thousand times before. We live in a world that works day in and out to make us something that we’re not. The hardest thing we will do in life is simply be ourselves. You know, be who God designed us to be. We’re all uniquely different, and that’s something to be celebrated.
This last week, we lined up with the best of them at the Dallas Market Apparel Show. Tons of clothing and accessories, all gorgeous, of course. But, early on, I had a slight panic. We’re different. Nobody has what we have. And, our price points are much, much higher. I knew in my heart of hearts that this could be a great thing or an awful thing. Thank God it was the former and not the latter.
What I learned is who we actually are in the marketplace, what buyer is attracted to us and that, drumroll, different is good. Tonight, while on a phone call with my bestie’s mother-in-law, turned my precious friend and valued customer, she said, “Jill (with a gorgeous Virginia accent), we buy your things because they’re not mass produced and they’re very unique.” I replied, “Ellen Ogle, thank you for saying that. You just confirmed for me what I needed confirmation on.” What a godsend!
In life, we must “be who we are,” as Dr. Seuss stated. Everyone else is already taken. Conformity is boring. We weren’t made to blend in. We were made to stand out so that others would take notice in the best of us because, friends, that’s where God shines His brightest and most beautiful light through us.
So, do me a favor… If you do one thing this week, promise me you will be yourself. The world is so much better because of you, precious, one of a kind, downright fabulous YOU!
Stay Divine
